The good manufacturers will guarantee their sheds for long periods (10 years), to give you piece of mind
I didn’t know what to expect with the Tuff Shed installation team — but they, too, were a joy to work with. .
On the cement floor, I never place any kind of 2x4 runner down to prevent contact with the cement.
The Rubbermaid Horizontal Storage Shed, is great way to tidy up your yard on a small footprint.
Plastic storage sheds can be painted provided you first use a coat of primer paint specifically made for plastics. Over that you can then use either normal multi-surface paint, or paint specially made for plastic surfaces.
If the trim is glossy plastic, you may need to get rid of the gloss first with light sanding – or use a Scotch-Brite pad.
You’ll pay a separate price to have your Heartland Shed professionally installed — and that cost can easily run into the hundreds of dollars or more, depending on the model.
And since we are talking about customer satisfaction, take a look at some of the customer reviews of Sheds Unlimited in Lancaster, PA.
Hi Brittany, very good and inspiring plan. I built it with some modifications of my own, and about a quarter of it is reclaimed or repurposed wood. Mine’s the same depth but 8′ long and with roof 9′ long as shingles come in 3′ lengths. I went up a foot higher than yours and reversed the slope of the roof as mine is next to garage wall. Also, I used deck screws instead of nails and handled the footings a little differently. I’d send you pics but don’t see how to. Recommendation: tell folks to make their cuts in the tallest 4×4 before assembling the shed; much easier and safer that way. Regards, Wayne
No rot, no rust, no problems! Plastic sheds biggest selling point is that they don’t require much maintenance, if at all. You never have to paint, sand or treat them for pests. They are also easy to clean with soapy water and a brush, or a pressure washer
Really, I didn’t have a preference when it came to the exterior aspects between the two manufacturers. I would’ve felt proud to own either a Tuff Shed or Heartland Shed on the merits of their exterior.
Before signing on the dotted line and paying that unbelievably low price, here are a few things to consider.
I also wanted a base that was relatively easy to put together, affordable, and environmentally friendly. Enter the plastic shed base, my personal choice.

When choosing the firewood shed size, you should consider the amount of wood you will need during each burning season.
I plan to have a licensed electrician install lighting and a power outlet inside my Tuff Shed — so I can use it as a fully functional workshop. I love carpentry and hope to make all kinds of things in my new shed!
Our shed floor is built with 3/4″ pressure treated plywood over 12″ o.c. joists. The low quality shed is built with 5/8″ untreated oriented strand board (OSB) over 16″ o.c. joists. OSB is particularly susceptible to buckling and warping when exposed to high moisture levels. This is especially the case at the edges/joints. Pressure treated plywood, on the other hand, is a much more durable surface that will handle moderate moisture very well, and could be sealed for additional protection. For the best surface, 3/4″ tongue-and-groove plywood could be used to further abate buckling.
