A successful DIY shed starts with choosing the right shed plans. First, determine how much space you can commit to an outbuilding, and check local codes for setbacks as you decide where to put it. It’s also important to consider what you’d like to store in the shed. Small tools can be hung on walls to save space, but large items like lawnmowers and snow blowers need more square footage. .
Look around...You will be surprised what you might find laying around to use a building material for a shed.

A wooden shed is the most traditional type of shed and can be completely customized to create a very specific size or shape. They can be painted any color to match your house or surroundings, and they can easily be dressed up with unique features like cupolas or window flower boxes. They can also easily be customized inside, as well. Multiple shelves and cabinets can be hung from the walls and the overhead loft areas to provide extra storage area. However, unless you finish the inside of a wooden shed with actual walls and a ceiling, the interior will have an "unfinished" appearance with exposed wooden beams and braces which make it more difficult to clean and can more easily attract unwanted bugs.

So, I was pretty much intent on buying a wood shed. But, just for good measure, I did check out metal sheds and plastic sheds, too: Unfortunately, metal sheds can rust — like my existing one did. And I didn’t want another rusty metal shed on my hands in a few years. I once owned a small plastic shed. It’s still standing after nearly 20 years (now in my sister and brother-in-law’s yard). It’s served both me and now my sister and her husband well — but they’re ready to replace it. The plastic shed’s paneling is beginning to warp, allowing water inside the shed.
